Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Mish'al Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Kuwait, securing an agreement to extend the price cap on gasoline and diesel. The measure, already applied by Q8, aims to limit fuel costs and protect households and businesses from rising energy prices.
The agreement follows discussions during Meloni's official visit to Kuwait, where she emphasized the need to stabilize energy costs amid global inflation. The Kuwaiti side confirmed its willingness to prolong the price cap, aligning with Italy's efforts to manage rising living expenses.
This development comes as part of broader cooperation between Italy and Kuwait, including defense and investment deals. The two nations have also adopted the Italy-Kuwait Action Plan 2027-2030, outlining joint initiatives in energy, trade, and security. The price cap extension is seen as a key step in addressing economic pressures on Italian citizens and businesses.
The move reflects growing coordination between Italy and Gulf states on energy policy, as both seek to mitigate the impact of volatile global markets. The agreement underscores the strategic importance of energy security in bilateral relations.
